Hartford Whalers ace, Greg Maddux, became the third PVBL pitcher to notch his 10th win today. Maddux went 7 and a 1/3 strong innings in a 9-2 win over Manhattan before leaving the game with a sore rotator cuff. maddux was replaced by Jeff McCurry, who went and inning and 2/3, allowing one earned run on one hit. Maddux looked superb through seven, walking none while striking out 10 batters. He left in obvious discomfort. "I just didn't feel right. But I certainly shouldn't have any problem pitching 5 days from now," said Maddux after the game. Manager Jeremy Chrabascz had this to say, "He pitched another spectacular game. Even if he's 50% in a few days, that's well above the ability of many other people's 100%." Indeed. Veteran Tony Gwynn went 4 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI while Ken Griffey, Jr. went 2 for 5 with a homer and 3 RBI.
Note: Maddux is listed as day-to-day (severity 18%).
