The Hartford Whalers have discovered that their problem is not their starting rotation (which is well beyond adequate) or their All-Star filled batting lineup and field but, essentially, their relief pitching. Hartford is in need of relief, especially middle relief and setup men. After watching everyone in the McCoy Division close the gap recently, the Whalers organization has panicked a tad and is willing to trade BIG for some solid relief help. Chrabascz had only this to say, "But let it be known that we're looking for quality relief. Relief that is producing NOW, this season. We're not trading big on potential. We've already been burned by so-called 'potential'." As far as big names go, Hartford is apparently willing to trade RF's Tony Gwynn and Mark Whiten (one OR the other), among others. Hartford also wanted to know who was looking for a cather because both Bill Lesley and Pat Borders are available.
