Only a few hours after stating that he would go with a four-man rotation, Hartford Whalers Owner/GM/Manager, Jeremy Chrabascz, took the advice of the league commissioner and decided to maintain a five-man rotation. It is not certain what the commish told Chrabascz but it obviously had an effect. Chrabascz immediately called a meeting with his pitching coach and they decided upon the following:
RF Chris James will be sent down to AAA immediately
P Jeff McCurry will be promotoed to PVBL immediately
P Tony Saunders will assume the role of the fifth starter in the rotation while McCurry will fill Saunders' vacant spot in the bullpen but as a middle reliever, not a setup man.
P Cordova and Sele will remain as long relievers
P Stan Belinda will be designated for Saunders' now vacant setup man spot.
RUMOR MILL
Reports out of Hartford have indicated that Chrabascz is in heavy negotiations with Andy Lund (Duluth) for Albert Belle, Geronimo Berroa and Nomar Garciaparra. Chrabascz is reportedly willing to give Lund all of the pitching he needs. Tony Gwynn and Kurt Abbott have also been rumored part of the deal.
