Hartford (AP)- Losing confidence in recently acquired, Aaron Sele, Manager Jeremy Chrabascz has placed him in the bullpen behind Francsico Cordova as a long reliever. Sele declined comment while Chrabascz said simply, "At least he's not done in AAA, right? Hopefully being in the pen will boost his confidence a little." Meanwhile, the Whalers will NOT attempt to promote anyone from AAA to fill the role as a fifth starter but instead will attempt a four-man rotation. Chrabascz had this to say, "We're going to give it a whirl, pending league approval." If League Commisioner, Matt, approves the four-man change in rotation, it will begin effective immediately and will feature Greg Maddux, Kenny Rogers, Jose Rosado and John Burke (in THAT order).
News, Notes and Moves:
Terry Pendleton, acquired from Galena for Mike Morgan, was inserted immediately into the lineup as DH despite the fact that he is listed as day-to-day with a bruised heel.
Rookie infielder, Howie Paulette, will remain at shortstop and will continue to hit lead-off.
Rumor Mill: The Whalers are hoping Pendleton will provide some increased run production. However, Chrabascz is unsure if it will be enough. "I'm not sure how much longer we can take not having Strawberry or Griffey in the lineup. Both were in the top 5 in the league in batting and run production before they went down. I might have to make a big move..a VERY big move." The rumored move might even involve the trading of Tony Gwynn, Lenny Dykstra, Scott Brosius or Kenny Rogers along with a possible slew of prospects, reportedly for any slugger like Larry Walker, Mark McGwire, Jeff Bagwell or Mo Vaughn. Interested clubs should contact Chrabascz immediately.
