Seattle, Johnson, Trample Hartford

The Seattle Mariners took their second-straight game from Hartford in Hartford today as Randy Johnson and staff 4-hit the Whalers. The game pulled Seattle to within 4 games of first-place Hartford and delivered Greg Maddux his first loss of the season. Johnson squared off against Maddux earlier in the season and both drew no decisions as Hartford won. This time Johnson was near perfect as Maddux allowed an uncharacteristic 3 earned runs over 5 innings of work, raising his once-invisible ERA. Maddux was so visibly upset with his performance he refused post-game interviews and somehow snuck out of the clubhouse before Chrabascz even had a chance to address the team after the game. We did manage to catch up with Chrabascz who had this to say, "Here they come (Seattle) and there we go..." Hartford's hitting leaders, Sorrento, Griffey and Gwynn all failed to record a single hit in the contest. There has been no indication that Chrabascz will make any sudden, drastic adjustments to his club as he has in the past this season. However, he has indicated there may be some changes in the batting order.

Trade Talk- Hartford is still looking for some infield depth and some hitting depth (power) off the bench. Harold Reynolds is possibly for sale as well as Brunansky, Benzinger and possibly Coleman. There is also a wealth of pitching to negotiate with.
