Attention!
The top two teams in the PVBL have completed a trade which should provide even greater depth to both clubs and supplement their needs.
Hartford sends relief pitchers Butch Henry, Pat Mahomes and rookie center fielder, Curtis Goodwyn to the Groundhogs for starting pitcher Aaron Sele and backup catcher Pat Borders.
GM/Owner/Manager of Hartford, Chrabascz, had this to say of the deal, "I think it's stupendous for both clubs. We only hope the rest of the PVBL doesn't resent us for trading with each other."
In a later press release, Dan Shapiro, owner of the Groundhogs, said that although he hated to let go of Sele, he thought that he was pitching beyond his normal ability at the start of the season. "Sele has some good stuff and is certainly of major league caliber, but he just isn't that good. And you could tell from our bullpen--we needed help." Borders was asked for Hartford as a backup catcher seems to be a highly useful player with the many injuries in the league. "Pat just didn't fit into our plans," remarked Shapiro. "We would much rather have Goodwin and groom him to be one of our future outfielders." Like Chrabascz, Shapiro hoped that the rest of the league would not react too harshy to this trade. "But we are both trying to win the pennant, so I don't think a self-respecting owner can disagree with a trade that helps their team.
Other Hartford News:
Aaron Sele will immediately assume the fifth spot in the rotation, replacing Dan Davis, who will be sent to AAA. Pat Borders will also be sent to AAA Glastonbury, while recently acquired Cordova will get some work in the bullpen as a long reliever.
Since the Groundhogs got one more player than Hartford, Hartford will look to sign a free agent to fill its final roster spot in AAA.
