The Hartford Whalers and Brooklyn Flaming Skulls announce a seven-player deal effective immediately:
Starting pitchers Francisco Cordova, Jeff McCurry, Charlie Rothrock (AAA) and Bill Fishers (AAA) will be sent from Brooklyn TO Hartford for
Veteran starting pitchers Ron Darling, Steve Sparks and 2B Bip Roberts.
Hartford Owner/GM/Manager had this to say of the trade, "I think this trade benefited us both. Neither Ron nor Steve were effective for us but they should certainly benefit from a change of scenery. The loss of Bip will not hurt us too bad with Vizcaino and Reynolds but the boys are surely going to miss him in the clubhouse. Hartford wish Ron, Steve and Bip the best of luck in Brooklyn. As far as what we got...we certainly needed some youth! We are one of the oldest, most experienced clubs in the PVBL. Cordova should mature nicely and we have been very impressed with Rothrock in his tryouts for us."
Hartford also would like to announce:
Francisco Cordova will immediately replace Dan Davis with the fifth spot in the starting pitching rotation and will start next game in his new uniform.
