Galena Lose 5-Game Series To Chicago October 13, 1997
Galena, IL--In what shocked many people, the talented Brooklyn Flaming
Skulls beat the Galena Hamsters in the 5th game of the first round
confrontation today, propelling the Skulls to the LCS and effectively
eliminating the Hamsters' season.
"It's frustrating, to be frank," noted owner and general manager Matthew
Peck. I still think we are the best team in PVBL right now, but a few
nagging injuries and some bad breaks didn't help us out. Just goes to show
you--what you do in the regular season doesn't mean anything. We didn't get
it done when it counted," then, with a gleam in his eye, Peck continued,
"We'll be back next year, though."
Brooklyn got out of the gate early in the series with a victory at home,
but the Hamsters came back to tie the series at 1-1 before the series moved
to Galena, where Galena was thought to have the advantage. It didn't work
that way. Brooklyn took the first game at Galena, 8-6. Galena managed to
win the 4th game, but fell again in the 5th game, 5-4 due to Darryl Kile's
poor starting performance. Notes Kile, "That was my worst start all year,
and it had to happen today! That's bogus! I'm not making any excuses. It
was my fault. I sucked today. I don't have anything else to say."
Kile later was said to have yelled multiple obscenities at various
reporters as they kept asking him questions. Peck stated that "you guys
ought to leave Kile alone. He's going through hell right now." He went on
to say that the Hamsters are a team, and that it wasn't just Kile that lost
the series, it was the team.
"But it's this same team, minus a few due to trades and free agents, that
will be back here next year celebrating our victory. We look forward to
next October."
