PVBL: Chicago South Siders
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
October 12, 1997
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP)--A season full of ups and downs has finally concluded for the Chicago South Siders. After playing .500 ball for the first two-thirds of the
season there was a shakeup in the front office at Chicago. Mike Embrey came
in to run club operations, and subsequently led the team to a 93-69 record.
Chicago finished a game out of first place and wound up with the DL's wild
card berth.
Unfortunately Chicago ran into juggernaut Ponxatawney in the first
round of the playoffs. Chicago fought valiently, taking the series to five,
but in the end it wasn't enough as the Groundhogs found a way to win the
fifth and final game.
"We're disappointed, but that's how these things go," said Embrey.
"Someone has to win, someone has to lose. We'll be back in the future."
Embrey went on to explain what he felt went wrong.
"Basically, Juan Gonzalez is a bum. We lose a game in extras to
Punx 10-9...and Juan went 0-5 in that game! If he gets on hit we win the
game and the series! He's a bum."
Later Embrey admitted that he only said such things publically
because he knew Juan couldn't understand a word of it.
"These last few weeks could be summed up with a simple phrase," said
Embrey. "Two shots of happy, one shot of sad."
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
You think I'm no good, well I know I've been bad
Took you to a place, now you can't get back
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Walked together down a dead end street
We were mixing the bitter with the sweet
Don't try to figure out what we might of had
Just two shots of happy, one shot of sad
I'm just a singer, some say a sinner
Rolling the dice, not always a winner
You say I've been lucky, well hell I've made my own
Not part of the crowd, but not feeling alone
Under pressure, but not bent out of shape
Surrounded, we always found an escape
Drove me to drink, but hey that's not all bad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Guess I've been greedy, all of my life
Greedy with my children, my lovers, my wife
Greedy for the good things as well as the bad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Maybe it's just talk, saloon singing
The chairs are all stacked, the swinging's stopped swinging
You say I hurt you, you put the finger on yourself
Then after you did it, you came crying for my help
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
I'm not complaining, baby I'm glad
You call it a compromise, well what's that
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
