Chicago Pulls to a Tie for Wild Card September 27, 1997
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP)--In a tremendous turn of events, the Chicago South
Siders have pulled to a tie for the DL wild card and within two games of
first in the Data Division. A three game sweep of the Phoenix Gila Monsters
has brought them from five out down to only two. The wildcard race is a tie
with Binghamton, who lost two games of a double header this afternoon.
"We're very excited," stated South Sider's new owner, GM, and manger
Mike Embrey. "This team has made vast improvements in the last month."
Chicago has gone on a tear, winning eight in a row. After Embrey
took over several lineup changes were made as well as changes with the
rotation. These seem to have bolstered an already potent team.
"When I took over this was a good team that needed better
management...more guidance," said Embrey. "I think I've brought that to the
table."
With only nine games left in the season Chicago has put itself in a
good position to reach the playoffs.
"We have to keep on winning," said Embrey. "We haven't won anything
yet, so to get overly excited could be our doom. Phoenix still leads us by
two, and Springfield is only a game behind us. If we continuing playing
this kind of baseball though, we'll threaten to get in."
