PVBL: Brooklyn Flaming Skulls
Brooklyn Defeats Galena in 5th Game

Oct 13, 1997

The Brooklyn Flaming Skulls defeated the Galena 5-4 in the 5th game of the division series to take the series 3-2. The Skulls gave the ball to Juan Guzman in the rubber game and Guzman was brilliamt giving up 1 run in 7 innings. Buddy Moisan almost gave up the lead in 1.2 innings but Randy Myers was able to close it out. The game capped off an exciting series and will send the Skulls to Hartford in the ELCS. The Skulls celebrated a bit after the game but G.M. Ryan George held a closed door meeting after the game. When the 1 1/2 hour meeting was over, all of the players were very serious.

After the game, Ryan Goerge had this to say, "First of all, I want to congradulate Matt and Galena on what they have done this season. They did a tremendous job. They have one of the best teams and will be right there next year. This is a perfect example of why the regular season means nothing. As great a season as they had, they will still have thet sour taste in their mouths because of the way it ended. We, on the other hand, didn't have a great season but we are 4 wins away from the world series. I held the m,eeting after the game to let the team know that we still have 8 more games to win and if that doesn't happen, then this season was a waste. We have Hartford up next and we are going to have to play our best to beat them. They have a terrific team but I think we are capable of beating them."
