The Brooklyn Skulls are the wild card team and are in the playoffs but
you wouldn't be able to tell that by the looks on the players faces over the
last month. After falling behind Motor City a little more than Halfway into
the season, the Skulls basically gave up on the division. The Skulls have
been playing well as of late and will have to step it up a notch to win in
the post season. Manny Ramirez (.299 37 125) and Jeff Bagwell .322 39 127
105r) both had tremendous seasons. Bernie Williams (.297 21 74 111r 40sb)
and Mike Stanley (.290 28 84) both had good seasons. Andres Galarraga (.324
21 71 92r 21sb in 134 games) and Brady Anderson (.317 11 34 44r 13sb in 62
games) both contributed greatly in limited time. David Cone (15-4 2.46),
Alex Fernandez (15-10 3.71), Juan Guzman (13-12 3.20), Arthur Rhoades (13-7
3.26) and Randy Myers (8-2 0.90 21saves) all had very good seasons for the
Skulls who were 94-68 overall.
G.M. Ryan George made it clear that this team has a long way to go
before the season is done, "I'm disappointed in the team because we didn't
play well in the second half. We had the best record in the league at the
all-star break but we struggled afterward. Now, we have to put this whole
season behind us. The real season begins now. We played 162 games prepairing
for now. Thankfully, our team is healthy. There is absolutely no room for
error. We have to play at a much higher level.
There are a few rumors going around in Brooklyn. One is that the G.M. of
the Skulls, Ryan George, might be entering the Free Agent draft at the end
of the season. He has neither confirmed nor denied this but did say this, "I
love playing baseball but right now I have to focous on managing this team
and playing my best in my senior year in high school."
The Skulls have also expressed interest in Deadwood's Randy Johnson and
Gary Sheffield as well as Galena's Kenny Lofton. Bernie Williams is rumored
to be at the center of either of the deals.
