It has not been the best of times in Brooklyn lately but that has changed around lately. The Skulls went into their worst slump of the year as they lost a franchise record 8 in a row and fell 2 games back of the Motor City Madmen. After winning 3 of 4 the Skulls cut the lead to .5 going into to todays games.
The first game was against New Diggins and they played their best game in a while. The Skulls won 7-0 behind a 2-hit performance by Juan Guzman. The team hit 4 homa runs including 2 by Jaff Bagwell (29,30), one by Andres Galarraga (16) and one by Manny Ramirez (26). Guzman (10-7, 2.87) has showed signs of this kind of dominance a few times this year. Manny Ramirez and Jeff Bagwell both broke out of minor slumps today.
The Skulls won the second game by a similar score, 8-1 over New Diggins. Manny Ramirez was the star of the game as he hit 3 home runs (27,28,29) and drove in 7 (91) runs for the second time this season. David Cone (12-2, 2.52) was brilliant in 7 innings of work. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. The Skulls stole a season high 6 bases, Bernie Williams (28,29), Noberto Martin (10,11), Todd Hollandsworth (20) and Andres Galarraga (12).
With the win, the Skulls move into first place, here's what G.M. Ryan George had this to say, "It's been very frustrating for us lately but this is definately a step in the right direction. The next 10-15 games are very crucial sor us and we have to win most of those games."
