Busy Day in Brooklyn

Today was a busy but not so great day in Brooklyn. The Skulls' offense continued to struggle as they score a total of 4 runs while splitting a double header against Tuscon. The Skulls lost the first game 1-0 on a HR by Darren Daulton in the top of the ninth. Waisted in this game was a great outting by Juan Gusman who went 7 shutout innings on 3 hits. "You have to deal with it. Sometimes you might pitch bad and the offense is there to pick you up so it's no big deal." That was what Juan Gusman had to say.

The Skulls won the second game behind the bat of Jeff Bagwell and the brilliant relief pitching of Barney Cavarretta. David Cone started and gave up 3 runs in 6.2 innings. The Skulls scored 3 rund before they made an out, Ruben Rivera and Bernie Williams singled followed by a 3 run homer by Jeff Bagwell. Tuscon faught back and with Tuscon threatening in the 7th, Ryan George brought in Barney Cavarretta from the bullpen. Cavarretta pitched 2.1 perfect innings. With the score tied at 3 in the bottom of the ninth with 1 out, Jeff Bagwell homered to rihgt center to win the ball game. The Motor City Madmen won both games today and gained 1 game on the Skulls. Ryan george was very upset after the game, "We are hitting like we're in a girls softball league. We can't expect our pitchers to go out and pitch great all the time but thankfully they have. There will be some changes if we don't start hitting soon."

The Skulls were so impressed with Buddie Moisan, that they haveÊ put Andy Benes back on the trading block. Henry Rodruigez has reportedly told friends that he wants to be traded because he does not feel that he has been treated correctly by the fans and by the front office. A team thet is very interested in "Oh Henry" is Sacramento. The Knights are in desperate need of some power and with 16 hr's and 55 rbi, Rodruigez would give them that. The Skulls are asking for Todd Hollandsworth in return but Sacramento wants 2 prospects (OF Shannon Stewart and RHP Brian Boehringer) included in a potential deal. Ron Darling will make a rehab start tonight for Brooklyn's AAA affiliate, the Tampa Dissidents, and should be back within the next 2 days.Ê

There was a lot of talking going on in the Skulls' club house after the game in response to what The Bighamton Mets had to say the other day. Ryan George had this to say, "The way I see it, there are about 5 or 6 teams with a legit shot to win a world series this year, and Bighamton isn't one of them. How can you be the best team in the entire league when you aren't even the best team in your division? Thats the end of that." RF'er Manny Ramirez had this to say, " I have no respect for anyone on the team and especially the manager for telling the team what he told them. I'll have respect for them if we see them in the World Series and even then if I notice anything going on I'll be the first one to start swinging."
