In the last three weeks Andy Benes had watched his ERA baloon from the mid 3's to the mid 4's. Benes has also watched his trade value drop since then. Benes has been decent in his two starts prior to today and today he was completely overpowering. Benes (6-2 4.27) pitched 8 shutout innings and gave up 3 hits. The Skulls only scored 2 runs and the offense has really struggled lately. Bagwell's RBI single gave Brooklyn the lead. Randy Myers pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his 14th save.
Bernie Williams and Manny Ramirez were forced to publicly apologise for their fight yesterday. Bernie Williams had this to say on the local radio station WFAN, "Manny and I were wrong for our actions last night. We should have acted like men. We setteled it this morning and everything is cool between us."Ê
Motor City lost today so Brooklyn increased its lead to 5.5 games. Tomorrow the Skulls' 1st round draft choice, Buddy Moisan, will start tomorrow vs Bellingham.
