Today was not a good day in Brooklyn for many reasons. First of all they lost with their ace on the mound. David Cone (10-1) picked up his first loss of the year going 8 innings and giving up 3 earned runs. The Skulls offense continued to be anemic as they scored 1 run and squandered many opritunities to score more runs. The only run came on a RBI double by Mike Stanley. Stanley has been a very pleasant suprise since coming over in a trade and has 21 homers and between 45 and 50 RBI.
Now for the bad news. While taking the bus back to the hotel Bernie Williams was playing the guitar on the team bus back from the stadium when Manny Ramirez asked him to stop. Jeff Bagwell and Alex Fernandez, who were listening to him told Ramirez to wait a few minutes but Ramirez wouldn't wait and he grabbed the guitar and threw it on the floor. A fight ensued between Bernie Willams and Manny ramirez. Jeff bagwell, Alex fernandez, Henry Rodruigez and Angel Sherid were also involved. Nobody was seriously injured. Ramirez was fined $20,000 dolars, Williams was fined $10,000 dolars and the other players were fined $5,000 each. Ryan george was very angry and had this to say, " I'm very disapointed in them, they are grown men and they can't act like this. We need team chemestry and we can't afford to have problems in the clubhouse like this. Next time a thing like this happens they will be suspended indefinately."
More bad news for the Skulls as they are having problems signing 2nd round draft choice, Mike Green. Apparently, Greens agent, Scott Boras, is asking for a 5 million dolar signing bonus but the Skulls aren't willing to pay him that kind of money. Boras is threatening to send Green to the northern league for the year and then have Green become a free agent.
On a good note the Skulls signed, free agent to be, David Cone to a 3 year contract extention worth $25 million. "I'm glad that we could get this over with before the season ended. I want to stay in Brooklyn and Brooklyn wants me here and hopefully I can end my career here. There is a lot of pressure for me to produce with this kind of contract and hopefully I can continue to pitch the way that I am capable of pitching."
