Skulls Make a Few Trades, Radically Changes Team Makeup

The Brooklyn Skulls are going to have a much different look this week. Things fine for the team untill pitchers Andy Pettitte and Brien Boeringer went down with possible season ending injuries. SS Jose Valentin, team leader in HR's 6, is out for a month as well. Without Pettitte on the staff the skulls still had one of the best staffs in the league but GM Ryan George felt that they needed another quality starter. He went out and traded for Andy Benes. In return Larimer got 3b Bill Mueller, 2b- Mark McLemore, Lhp-Mike Holtz and OF- orlando Merced. Mueller is a fine prospect who should be a very good player in the future. Merced is a solid all around player. McLemore didn't want to be in Brooklyn and Ryan George didn't want McLemore in Brooklyn. After this trade they were left without a starting ss, dh, 2b and 3b. To replace Valentin the Skulls called up veteran Luiz Salazar. To fill the other 3 holes they made a trade with Atlanta. They gave up pitching for 3b- Angel Sherid ( batting .377) 2b Edgardo Alfonso and 1b- Ron Coomer. GM Ryan George had this to say about the whole matter, " I don't think any of this has really hurt the team for now. I held Mueller in a high regard and hated to trade him away but I needed Benes. Right now Sherid Might be a little better than Mueller but in the long run Mueller would have helped us more because he's younger and he'll be around longer. Edgardo Alfonso has every opritunity to start at 2b for us and anybody would have been better than McLemore. I believe Alfonso will become a great player in the future. It was also hard to give up Merced but I needed to in order to get Benes but I think Coomer will do a good job for us."

In an interview Andy Benes had this to say about coming to Brooklyn, " I loved Larimer, I thought it was a great place but if I had to go somewhere else it would be here. This is a contending team, and I have some very good friends on the team."

Thats all for now
