This was both a great week and a terrible week for the Brooklyn Skulls. First the bad news Andy Pettitte went on the DL and is expected out for the rest of the year. G.M. Ryan George hd this to say about it, " It's a terrible loss whenever any team looses one of the best pitchers in the game. With Andy in the staff that gives us a chance to win every time he comes on to the mound. Loosing Andy isn't as bad for our team as it would have been for another team if they lost a starter at his level because we still have 4 very good starters." The Skulls aren't sure who they will start in his place but Ryan George says that they have a few options," We have a few options, either we can start somone from AAA or use Neb Smith. We canalso use a 4 man rotation for now. The other option would be to trade for another pitcher." Newly aquired Brian Boeringer was also injured and will be out 4-6 months. The skulls also lost SS Jose Valentin for a month. Valentin was tied for the team lead in HR's wih 6.
Now for the good news. The Skulls went 4-1 this week improving their record to 7-6. they have won 7 of their last 10 and by winning 2 of 3 against Bellingham, they have taken over sole possetion of 1st place in the Kirk Division. GM Ryan George says that ithe offense is the reason that they are in 1st, " Ever since we were shut out by a no name pitcher our offense has been great. We're hitting a lot of HR's and we're getting hits in key situations. We have been scoring enough runs so that our pitchers can relax and just throw strikes."
The Skulls player of the week is Juan Gusman. Here are his stats for the week: 1-0, 8 inn, 0r, 2h, 0bb, 5k. Bermie Williams also had a good week collecting 12 hits and stealing 5 bases and raising his avg. from the .240's to .377.
After being dropped to 9th in the lineup 2b Mark Mclemore demanded a trade from Brooklyn and had this to say," I want out, I should be batting 1 or 2 not 9 and I don't want to be here anymore. I don't care where I go, I just want out." Mclemore had 2 hits today and raised his average to .189. The Skulls want all teams to know that they don't want Mark McLemore anymore. Rumor has it that they are looking to trade for Edgardo Alfonso and put him in at 2nd.
